NFL to hire full-time refs for first time

The National Football League is hiring full-time referees, the first time it has done so.

Troy Vincent, the league's vice president of football operations, told The Associated Press the league intends to hire 17 full-time officials this offseason.

Currently, NFL officiating crews are part-time staff and hold jobs outside of football.
