Facebook CEO sues native Hawaiians to force land sales

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has filed lawsuits against Hawaiian families in an attempt to get them to sell their land so his family has more privacy, according to Fox News.

Citing the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, Fox News reported a dozen parcels of Zuckerberg’s Kauai estate are owned by so-called kamaaina families, or Hawaii residents born on the island regardless of whether they have native Hawaii ancestry or not.

The suits filed through several companies target hundreds who inherited or once owned interests in so-called kuleana lands. Through the Kuleana Act of 1850, the real estate was acquired by Hawaii citizens.

Zuckerberg hopes the suits will force the families to sell their land at a public auction, according to Fox News.

The Facebook founder paid over $100 million for the property, which spans more than 700 acres on the coast, in 2014, Forbes reports.
