Posted online
New rules by the U.S. Federal Aviation Authority on the commercial use of drones go into effect today.

The FAA rules dictate the small unmanned aerial vehicles for commercial use must weigh less 55 pounds; fly up to a maximum of 400 feet in altitude at no more than 100 miles per hour; only be operated during the daytime and up to 30 minutes before sunrise and after sunset; and only be flown by those at least 16 years old.

The new rules could be a boon for the construction, surveying, agriculture, firefighting, search and rescue, conservation, academic research, film and video production industries.
