Uber to track driving behavior

Uber Technologies Inc. has developed new software to track when drivers of the ride-hailing app go too fast, cut corners or brake too quickly by monitoring the sensors in their smartphones.

The technology is rolling out this week in dozens of cities for a test phase.

It's designed to help the company's over a million drivers receive more feedback when customers rate them poorly. However, it could raise concerns about driver privacy and questions about how far Uber can legally reach into the lives of workers it classifies as independent contractors, rather than employees.
