Takata files for bankruptcy protection

Crippled by vast airbag recalls, Japan's Takata filed for bankruptcy.

The company also announced it would sell its surviving operations to a Chinese-owned American rival, Key Safety Systems.

Carmakers have recalled nearly 70 million of the company's airbags. They've been linked to at least 14 deaths.
