Police find no link between Owens' stepdad, accused killer

The Springfield Police Department found no connection between Hailey Owens' stepfather and her accused killer, according to a spokesman for the department.

Last week, her stepfather Jeffrey Barfield was indicted for handling child pornography. The crimes occurred between 2012 and 2016. Owens was murdered in 2014. Available court documents do not specifically say what investigators believe Barfield did.

Ownes died after being kidnapped and then murdered near her home. Her accused killer, Craig Wood, is scheduled to face a trial this fall.
