AT&T faces political barrage over Time Warner deal

AT&T Inc. on Saturday announced it signed a deal to buy Time Warner Inc. for $85.4 billion.

Even before it was formally announced, the deal began facing pressure by members of Congress, industry groups and other politicians.

Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders and Vice Presidential nominee Tim Kaine all expressed concerns over the deal. Opponents say the combination of AT&T’s millions of wireless and pay-television subscribers with Time Warner’s stable of TV networks and programming would limit competition and hurt consumers.
