Work starts at Grant Avenue Parkway apartment complex

Dirt is moving at the site of a planned apartment complex along the Grant Avenue Parkway.

The Dale is designed as a 42-unit apartment building at 1112 S. Grant Ave., said Lori Barnes Miller, director of asset management for project general contractor Morelock Builders & Associates Inc. Miller said the company's owner, Wayne Morelock, is the developer.

Morelock, Miller said, grew up near the Grant Avenue corridor.

"It is his fervent hope that many others grow up with the same place in their hearts for the charm of center city," Miller said via email.

The Dale is slated for completion in March 2025, Miller said, noting H Design Group LLC is the project architect. The development's cost was undisclosed.

Work is ongoing on the Grant Avenue Parkway project, which is designed to improve the area from Bass Pro Shops' flagship store on Sunshine Street to downtown Springfield.

"Wayne Morelock shares the vision for the Grant Avenue corridor with the leadership at city of Springfield," said Miller. "As a longstanding competitive cyclist, he’s excited about the possibilities of the shared pedestrian/cyclist path through town. Connectivity begets progress and growth."

A groundbreaking ceremony was held last month for Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield Inc.'s teen center along the Grant Avenue Parkway. The 804 W. Catalpa St. project is adjacent to Nordic Landing, a $10 million housing development that's nearing completion.

The Dale project is about a quarter mile away from the Boys & Girls Clubs and Nordic Landing developments.

Morelock owns The Dale project site via HMNT Investment LLC, according to Greene County assessor and Missouri secretary of state records.
