Pet Supplies Plus closing Battlefield Road store

Pet Supplies Plus is closing one of its five Springfield-area stores.

The pet supplies store at 1517 W. Battlefield Road is scheduled to close March 30, said Karl Keller II, president of the local locations.

"With the ever-increasing cost of operating a brick-and-mortar location, we don’t have enough foot traffic to keep Battlefield open," he said via email. "As an independently owned and operated business whose ownership team are all longtime Springfield residents and supporters of our local community, we can’t stress enough the impact of keeping your shopping dollars local."

Keller said Pet Supplies Plus' three other Springfield locations and one Nixa store would remain operational.

"Our Battlefield neighbors will be able to use their rewards account and offers at any of our other locations, and they will see some of our Battlefield staff there as they have started transitioning to our other stores," he said.

The Battlefield Road store is currently offering discounts on merchandise as it nears the closure date.

Keller and team converted Springfield-based Petsway Inc. to the Pet Supplies Plus franchise in 2021 after exiting bankruptcy proceedings the prior year, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.

Livonia, Michigan-based Pet Supplies Plus has more than 625 stores, according to its website.
