Hidden Grounds Coffee House
The exit of one coffee shop at The Fairbanks in north Springfield opened the doors for another on March 4. Hidden Grounds LLC, dba Hidden Grounds Coffee House, fills around 800 square feet on the second floor at the 1126 N. Broadway Ave. community resource hub. MacKenzie Toomey co-owns Hidden Grounds with business partner Justin Fry. Toomey declined to disclose startup costs or the one-year lease rate she signed with nonprofit Drew Lewis Foundation Inc., founded by Amy Blansit. The new shop replaced Kaiju Coffee, which Blansit said closed earlier this year after opening in November 2022. The shop’s menu includes espresso drinks, drip coffee and cold brew, as well as tea, lemonade and smoothies. Prices range $2-$6. Hidden Grounds sources its coffee beans from Victory Mission & Ministry’s Equip Coffee company, Toomey said, adding her business also offers a membership program, which provides one free coffee per day or $1 off other menu items. Individual memberships are $25 per month, while monthly business memberships cost $100 for up to five employees.

CMH Health & Wellness Clinic
A new clinic from Citizens Memorial Hospital opened March 4 in Bolivar. The CMH Health & Wellness Clinic, at 2520 S. Springfield Ave., Ste. A, fills a 2,800-square-foot vacancy in the Cribbers Corner shopping center, said CMH spokesperson Charlotte Marsch. She said startup costs were $135,000. The clinic provides wellness visits for patients who do not have a primary care provider, as well as hospital transitional care services for patients without primary care support. Marsch said family nurse practitioner Shelby Bailey, who previously was a family nurse practitioner hospitalist at Mercy Hospital Springfield, leads the four-person CMH clinic staff. The clinic does not provide walk-in services, health system officials say, noting these are offered at the nearby CMH Walk-In Clinic at 2230 S. Springfield Ave., Stes. H-J. The Bolivar-based health care system operates 34 primary care and specialty physician clinics in communities including Ash Grove, Bolivar, Buffalo, Pleasant Hope, Stockton and Willard.

The Stardust Ballroom
Springfield entrepreneur Mark Burgess brought a retro entertainment concept to town with the Feb. 23 opening of The Stardust Ballroom. The venture that harkens back to the days of big band music and ballroom attire fills 5,500 square feet at 305 W. Walnut Lawn St., Ste. TT, in McLoud Plaza, said Burgess, who declined to disclose startup costs. He signed a lease for undisclosed terms with McLoud & Co. LLC for the space, which includes a bar, dance floor and table service. Burgess said the 130-person capacity ballroom, which is open on Friday and Saturday nights, has a house band that includes an upright bass, drummer, guitar player, pianist and brass instruments. The Stardust Ballroom has a $25 entry fee with reservations recommended, as well as a dress code. While not age restricted, the venue is designed for older adults, he said, noting the 12-employee staff includes security personnel. Burgess also owns the Ozarks Lunkers, The Arena League football team that begins play this summer. He additionally operates Burgess Aircraft Management LLC dba OzAir Charter Services.
